The Waters and Mountains of Sichuan (1) - On the way to Longgang National Geological Park (1)

Cloud Bridge or Glass Bridge

One of the most recent additions to China's tourism offerings is the Cloud Bridge, also known as the Glass Bridge, located in Yunyang, Chongqing. This remarkable structure holds the distinction of being the world's longest cantilever bridge. This transparent glass skywalk, situated within the Yunyang Longgang Scenic Spot, or Longgang National Geological Park, was officially inaugurated on May 1, 2015, and is currently undergoing some minor renovations.

The Cloud Bridge is perched on a cliff, soaring to a height of 718 meters above ground level, with a length of 26.68 meters. Overall, the cliff in Yunyang stands at 1010 meters above sea level, making it one of the highest viewing bridges globally. Although the entire attraction was initially scheduled for completion by October 2015, it is now open to the public.

What makes this glass bridge truly exceptional is that visitors can walk on its glass flooring in a loop, allowing them to gaze upon the breathtaking canyon and river below. The maximum capacity for this cantilever bridge is 30 people at a time, and each session typically lasts around 20-30 minutes.

About Maryland Heights Trail

This trail is about 7 to 10 miles in length.  The hiking was graded as difficulty.  Hiking shores or hiking boots is highly recommended.  None of the section of the trail is paved.  Some parties are wider than others, like from the trail head to the overlooking point.  The trail from starting point the over looking cliff is stone laid over dirt.   I would say 2/3 of the trails are angled 30 to 45 degree.  ¾ parts of the trails are narrow.  As in any other national park, there are no food or toilet facilities, so bring your own food and water.  The Overlook Cliff is  where you can see there the two branches of Potomac River joining and the whole lower town of Happers Ferry and it is a good place for your lunch break.  Prepare to have 5 to 7 hours for hiking the whole trail.
