Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine

Fort McHenry is a pentagonal bastion fort in Baltimore, Maryland.  It is significant for its role in the War of 1812, when it successfully defended Baltimore Harbor from an attack by the British from the Chesapeake Bay on September 13-14, 1814.

Right at the entrance you will see a huge statue of Orpheus, the hero of music and poetry on the lawn.  Across the lawn you come to a path in front of the Fort and right with water where the gees were enjoying themselves.  From there, you will also have a good view of Baltimore Harbor.

When walking on the walls of the Fort, you can be right there with the cannons that were used in the war.

It was there when Francis Scott Key stood aboard the deck of an American ship on September 14, 1814 and witnessed Britain's twenty-five-hour bombardment of the Fort, and then the raising of the American flag.  This image inspired Key to write a song that later became "The Star-Spangled Banner"!

Trip to Texas-(14) (continued) hike at Texas enchanted rock state park

As we began our descent from the summit but before reaching our starting point, we ventured onto the Echo Canyon Trail. This trail led us through a picturesque valley adorned with vibrant wildflowers and shrubs. Upon reaching the valley floor, we proceeded along the Moss Lake Trail, which then circled back to our original parking spot.

During our hike, we encountered intriguing rock formations and stumbled upon a stunning lake with the rocks serving as a captivating backdrop. I hope that upon viewing these photos, you too will be captivated by the enchanting beauty of this park!

Trip to Texas-(14) hike at Texas Enchanted Rock state park

Today, we explored Texas's Enchanted Rock State Park. The primary attraction is the Summit Trail. This trail predominantly traverses the rock surface, with the exception of the initial 200 yards. At times, the trail takes you at a steep 45-degree angle, either ascending or descending. The approach involves a zigzag pattern, reminiscent of navigating a ski slope. Along the way, we were treated to sweeping panoramic vistas of the valley below. Upon reaching the summit, we were rewarded with a breathtaking 360-degree perspective of the surrounding landscape, creating a sensation akin to being on the lunar surface!
