Trip to Spain and Portugal - Sintra (continued) Pena Palace

This Romanticist castle located in Sao Pedro de Penaferrim, Sintra is the most colorful and beautiful castle and palace I have ever seen in Portugal.  The palace is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and said to be the one of the seven wonders of Portugal. The castle's history started when a chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Pena.

When we visited it, it was a very foggy day.  You can tell from my photos that the visibility was limited.  But that gives my photos certain romantic feeling.  Each photo was taken from look at the castle from different angles.

Here is what the castle looks like in a clear day (photo from web):

Trip to Spain and Portugal- Serra da Sintra (Cape Roca)

Serra da Sintra is a cape which forms the westernmost extent of mainland Portugal, continental Europe and the Eurasian land. Our plan was to go there to see the sunset but by the time we arrived there, it was very foggy.  Here are couple of photos from Cape Roca.

Trip to Spain and Portugal- Palace of Sintra

The palace of Sintra is an architectural space that was built in various periods.  It consists of rooms and chambers where the Loyals received visitors, courtyards and terraces where the privileged enjoyed their leisure; offices where the steward and his clerk managed the royal property; and the gardens from which fruit and flowers were sent to Lisbon.

The Palaces is also the center of the economic and legal administration of the surrounding region.  It was where the taxes were kept, contracts signed and the natural resources of the landscape of Sintra protected.
