Following our visit to Moray, we headed to the nearby Salineras de Maras, a stunning salt mine comprised of many mini squares, each one owned and managed by individual families. As depicted in the photos, each family takes ownership of their designated square. The salt mined here is used for both home and industrial purposes. The sight of the salt mine reminded me of the beautiful rice fields found in Southeast Asia. It was fascinating to witness how these families had been able to maintain and preserve this traditional industry for generations.
