18- Naples, Italy- The Church of San Ferinando

This is a beautiful Baroque-style church located just a short walk from both landmarks. It was built in the 18th century and dedicated to Saint Ferdinand III, who was the king of Castile and Leon in the 13th century. The Church is known for its ornate facade, impressive bell tower, and beautiful interior, which features stunning frescoes and works of art. It is a popular landmark in Naples and a must-visit destination for those interested in religious history and architecture.

17 Naples, Italy- Galleria Unberto I

 This is a public shopping gallery located directly across from the San Carlo opera house.

 Galleria Umberto I is a stunning 19th-century shopping arcade located in the heart of Naples, Italy. It was built in 1891 and named after King Umberto I of Italy. The arcade is considered one of the most beautiful shopping centers in Europe and is a popular destination for tourists and locals alike.

The arcade is designed in the shape of a cross, with a glass-vaulted ceiling that is over 50 meters high. The arcade is decorated with beautiful mosaics and sculptures, and the floor is made of white marble with a black border, creating a stunning contrast.

The Galleria Umberto I is home to several shops, restaurants, cafes, and boutiques, selling everything from luxury Italian fashion to local souvenirs. There are also several famous landmarks located near the arcade, including the Teatro di San Carlo, the Royal Palace of Naples, and the Piazza del Plebiscito.

One of the highlights of the Galleria Umberto I is the central octagonal space, which is surrounded by four grand arches leading to each of the arcade's wings. At the center of the octagonal space is a beautiful bronze statue of King Umberto I, which is a popular spot for tourists taking photos.

16- Naples, Italy- Royal Palace

The Royal Palace of Naples, also known as the Palazzo Reale di Napoli in Italian, is a historic palace located in the heart of Naples, Italy. The palace was built in the early 17th century and has served as the residence of the Bourbon Kings of Naples, as well as a museum and cultural center.

The Royal Palace features a grand facade and a stunning courtyard, adorned with sculptures and fountains. The interior of the palace is equally impressive, with ornate rooms decorated with frescoes, tapestries, and antique furnishings.

The palace also contains the National Library of Naples, which houses a vast collection of books and manuscripts, as well as a museum dedicated to the history and culture of Naples.

Today, the Royal Palace of Naples is open to the public and attracts visitors from all over the world who come to marvel at its beauty and learn about the rich history of Naples and Italy.

The rooms were not opened to the public the day we visited.  Here are some of the photos taken walking in the courtyard and in the gardens.

15 Naples, Italy- Piazza del Plebiscito

Naples is a vibrant and historic city located in southern Italy, on the coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea. It is the capital of the Campania region and one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, with a rich history that dates back to the ancient Greeks and Romans.

The city is known for its stunning architecture, delicious food, and bustling streets full of life and energy.  popular tourist attractions in Naples include the historic city center, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site featuring beautiful Baroque and Renaissance architecture, the Royal Palace of Naples, the Castel dell'Ovo, and the Naples National Archaeological Museum, which houses an impressive collection of Roman artifacts.

Naples is also renowned for its cuisine, which includes delicious pizza, seafood, and pasta dishes. The city's famous pizza, in particular, is said to be the best in the world, with a thin and crispy crust and delicious toppings such as fresh mozzarella, San Marzano tomatoes, and basil.

Piazza del Plebiscito is one of the most iconic and beautiful squares in Naples, Italy. It is located in the heart of the city, just a short walk from the waterfront and the Royal Palace of Naples.

The square is enormous, covering an area of over 25,000 square meters, and is surrounded by several stunning buildings, including the Royal Palace of Naples, the Basilica of San Francesco di Paola, and the Palazzo Salerno. The buildings around the square were constructed during the 19th century and are characterized by their beautiful neoclassical architecture.

Piazza del Plebiscito is a popular destination for tourists and locals alike. It is a great place to relax and soak up the atmosphere of Naples, with plenty of cafes and restaurants located around the square. It is also a venue for several events and concerts throughout the year, including classical music concerts, jazz festivals, and the New Year's Eve fireworks display.

14 Naples, Italy- Piazza Municipio square/Palazzo San Giacomo/Naples Town Hall

 After walked out of the ship port terminal, we reached an open space where the government city hall was right in front of us.  You can see at the left is a historic landmark, at right are some big hotels.

It was a cloudy and dark day, so the photos were bit grey.
