23 Messina, Italy -Messina Cathedral

The centerpiece of Piazza del Duomo is the Messina Cathedral, officially known as the Basilica Cattedrale Metropolitana di Santa Maria Assunta. The cathedral is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and was originally built in the 12th century. However, it has undergone several reconstructions over the centuries, especially after being severely damaged by earthquakes. The current structure combines different architectural styles, including Norman, Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque elements. The interior of the cathedral houses beautiful artworks and religious artifacts.
